Andrey Delchev gave an interview for Acquisitions International. The magazine prepares annual studies on the business climate in countries across the world. Being a leading expert in corporate and commercial law, with more than 15 years expertise in the area, Mr. Delchev was asked to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the Bulgarian economy from foreign investors’ perspective.

Attorney Delchev outlined the strict fiscal discipline and stable banking system as the reasons staying behind the greater macro-economic stability of Bulgaria compared to its neighboring states. He highlighted the adoption of the Financial Stability Pact as a particular governmental measure in this respect. In mid 2011 Bulgaria’s credit rating was increased and according to Mr. Delchev this was due to the relatively good GDP growth of 2%, influenced by the increased export.

On the question concerning the challenges facing investors in Bulgaria, Mr. Delchev pointed out commonly known problems such as corruption and burdensome administrative procedures. He set strong emphasis on the high intensity of legislation amendments which cost time and resources to the businesses and involve short terms for compliance.
