The academic 2010-2011 was marked by the first Bulgarian national rounds of the world’s largest and most prestigious law competition – Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. This is a simulation of a dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the UN. Teams of students prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and the respondent position of a fictitious case before a panel of judges.

The Bulgarian national rounds took place between the 18th and 20th of February 2011 at the Palace of Justice in Sofia. Teams representing four universities, among which Sofia University “St Kliment Ochridski”, the University for National and World Economy, the American University in Bulgaria and the South-West University “Neofit Rilski”, competed in English for the Bulgarian Championship Cup. The team of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” won the competition and earned the right to present Bulgaria at the International finals of Jessup held in Washington D.C. between 21st and 27th of March 2011.

Managing partner Andrey Delchev was invited as competition judge in acknowledgement of his long-lasting practice as judge, arbitrator and lawyer. Eurolex Bulgaria will continue to support the organizer of the Bulgarian rounds of Jessup – International Law Moot Court Competitions Association in their innovative educational initiatives.
