The team of Eurolex volunteered for the archaeological excavations of the Episcopal basilica in Plovdiv. According to archaeologists the basilica was built at the end of the 4th Century and was destroyed at the end of the 6th Century, probably due to a massive earthquake. The basilica was with a nave and two aisles and was very big. Its mosaics are extraordinary – they are remarkable for their complicated patterns and the masterly work.
The site was discovered in 1982 – 1984 when the construction of a boulevard in Plovdiv began. Currently archaeological excavations are held here. The team of Eurolex participated voluntarily in the work on the central and north nave. Under the surveillance of archaeologists our team carefully removed layers and revealed numerous human remains of burials, some of them put on the mosaics, a glass bracelet, pottery and adornments. The restoration works will continue until 2018 and our team promised to come back again and participate in the excavations.
